Cosmic Ray Detector

This page is displaying the output from the LMRO Cosmic Ray Detector, we are currently experimenting with two GM-45 (one GM-45 is pictured below) units connected together and operating in "Coincidence Detector" mode, more information can be found here, Coincidence Detector and here, Blackcat Systems

GM-45

The Pierre Auger Observatory is a site worth visiting for latest research in Cosmic Ray detection.

This LINK will also provide plenty of information on Cosmic Ray Detection including a link to various You Tube clips of interest showing Cosmic Ray Detectors in action, thanks to Robert Hart for allowing us to link to his page.

This is a Direct Link to one of Robert's Pages about Cosmic Rays, at the bottom of the page is a delightful video clip of Carl Sagan talking about Cosmic Rays as only he can do it!.

It is still planned to build a Cosmic Ray (Muon) detector as a project which can be added to LMRO. The GM-45's are ultimately to be used as Reference units.

Output from the Detectors is displayed below as Counts Per Minute.

This Page Auto Refreshes every 5 minutes.

The Software also allows the station to be placed on a Map of the World together with other Radiation Detectors, this link:- On Line Geiger Counter Nuclear Radiation Map will take you at first to a map of the USA, use the Zoom Out controls to view the World, the number over Melbourne is this station and is indicating the average Counts Per Minute being detected, the page refreshes every 15 minutes.

Note:- by holding the Control (Ctrl) button down and pressing the + key you can increase the page size for easier reading, pressing the - key will decrease the size.

The Station is now located at LMRO as of the 3rd of September 2011.

On Sunday while we were working on the EMI Sheilding of the container the GM-45 Detector was running, between 1300 and 1307 Hours ESDT on the 2/10/11 we detected a "WOW" signal, I quick picture or the computer screen was taken, we are not sure as to what was detected but it definitly created a "WOW" response!
